Short answer: Morocco is a great family destination. Moroccans love children, distances are manageable with a private driver, and kids remember the camels, the souks and the night in the desert for years. The keys are a slower pace, shorter driving days and riads with a pool.
Best family activities
- A camel ride and a night in the Sahara, ideally in a family tent with a private bathroom. See our guide to desert camps.
- Sandboarding on the dunes of Merzouga.
- Jemaa el-Fna in the evening, with musicians, acrobats and juice stalls (avoid photos with monkeys and snakes).
- Gardens: the Majorelle Garden and Le Jardin Secret in Marrakech.
- Beaches in Essaouira, Oualidia or near Casablanca, with camel and horse rides on the sand.
- Barbary macaques in the cedar forest near Ifrane.
- A cooking class: kids love making bread and pastries.
- Waterfalls and mountain villages in the Ourika Valley or at Ouzoud.
A 10-day family itinerary

Practical tips
- Keep driving days short: break long legs with nights in Erfoud or Ouarzazate.
- Choose riads with a pool and family rooms; some riads with steep stairs are not suited to toddlers.
- Bring a light carrier rather than a pushchair for the medinas.
- Water and food: bottled water, freshly cooked food, and simple dishes like kefta, grilled chicken, bread and fruit.
- Sun: hats, sunscreen and no midday visits in summer.
- Car seats: ask your agency in advance; they are not standard in Morocco.
- Health: pack a small kit with rehydration salts, and take travel insurance.
Best time for a family trip
Spring and autumn school holidays are ideal. Summer is very hot inland, so focus on the coast and the Atlas. Read our month-by-month guide and is Morocco safe?
Frequently asked questions
Is Morocco safe for families with children?
Yes. Moroccans are very welcoming to children. The usual precautions apply: sun, water, traffic and crowded markets.
Can young children sleep in a desert camp?

What age is best for a Morocco trip with kids?
Children from about six enjoy it most, but families travel with babies and toddlers too, with a slower pace and shorter drives.
